If you are a caregiver or have a family member with dementia, plan to attend the Focus on Seniors informational program, “Dementia: Ways for Family & Caregivers to Cope”, on March 23, at 11 a.m., in the Sharon Lawson Room.
Rebekah Wilson, MSW, Director of Education and Community Relations for Choices in Senior Care, will discuss various aspects of dementia for caregivers
- Describe Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia
- Discuss usual progression and symptoms
- Identify strategies to minimize common behavioral expressions
- Explore the benefits of pleasurable distractions and sensory stimulation.
In her role as Director of Education and Community Relations, Wilson provides staff and community with education regarding dementia and dementia care standards, as well as ongoing consultation and support for Choices in Senior Care clients.
She will describe ways that caregivers and family can assist the affected family member as well as finding methods for caregivers and family to cope, both personally and mentally.
The favorite part of her job is having a real impact on the way that care is provided for individuals with dementia through education and training of care partners. This program will be in the Sharon Lawson Room of the library.
