Presented by Gary Reid
Monday, October 21, 2019, 7 p.m., Library Main Gallery
Southern Appalachian Studies Series
Gary Reid—actor, musician, historian, and author—will perform a one-man show based on the life and times of Carter Stanley, the brother of Ralph Stanley. Reid uses a mix of storytelling and music to bring to life the saga of an Appalachian mountain music treasure.
Reid has also written the book: The Music of the Stanley Brothers, available at Amazon. (Book cover shown above).
From the book description:
The Music of the Stanley Brothers brings together forty years of passionate research by scholar and record label owner Gary Reid. A leading authority on Carter and Ralph Stanley, Reid augments his own vast knowledge of their music with interviews, documents ranging from books to folios sold by the brothers at shows, and the words of Ralph Stanley, former band members, guest musicians, session producers, songwriters, and bluegrass experts.
