Medicare Matters 2020

Medicare Matters 2020 Overview

Joani Shaver, Director of the Blount County Office on Aging, presents Medicare MattersOverview and Updates. For many people, going on Medicare is scary and complicated. Shaver will review the basics and explain changes proposed for 2020. This program is part of the Focus on Seniors partnership between the Library and the Office on Aging.

Attendees are encouraged to visit www.medicare.gov and bring their questions to the presentation. The 2020 Medicare Open Enrollment Period is October 15, 2019 – December 7, 2019 for a January 1, 2020 effective date.

Plan to attend on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Sharon Lawson Room. There will be a related program, Medicare and Drug Plans, on November 20.

Medicare counselors will be available to assist individuals with reviewing choices and enrolling in different plans before and after the program. For an appointment on October 23 with the Medicare counselors, call the SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) office at 877-801-0044. Program and appointments will be in Sharon Lawson Room.

Joani Shaver can be reached at the Blount County Community Action Agency at 865-983-8411 or by email at jshaver@blountcaa.org. The Community Action Agency website is www.blountcaa.org
