Joani Shaver, Director of the Blount County Office on Aging, presents Medicare Overview and Updates. For many people, going on Medicare is frightening and complicated. Shaver will review the basics and explain any changes proposed for 2019. This program is part of the Focus on Seniors partnership between the Library and the Office on Aging.
Attendees are encouraged to visit www.medicare.gov and bring their questions to the presentation. The 2019 Medicare Open Enrollment Period is October 15th, 2018 – December 7th, 2018 for a January 1st, 2019 effective date.

There will be a related presentation about Medicare Overview and Drug Plans 2019 on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, also at 11 a.m. in the Sharon Lawson Room.
About Joani Shaver
Shaver has seven years experience as Director of the Office on Aging and is a Certified Information & Referral Specialist for Aging Issues. She has many hours of training on Medicare and has worked with elderly populations in several areas of the country. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Community Service from Michigan State University and has worked in nonprofit and higher education organizations all of her career. Under her direction, the Senior Miles (SMiles) transportation for elderly program has been implemented in Blount County.
The Office on Aging also publishes the Senior Services Directory which is available at no cost from the library, the Community Action Agency, Blount Memorial Hospital and the Senior Center at Everett.
