Be on guard whenever a stranger approaches you, a veteran, and offers to “assist” you with accessing your veterans’ benefits. Frequently these false Good Samaritans only want access to your personal information so that they can siphon off some of the benefits that belong 100% to you.
Blount County Veterans Service Officer, Nathan Weinbaum, will give a VA Benefits brief which will cover the Blount County Veterans Affairs Office and many VA benefits including Compensation, Pension, Pension Poachers, Burial Benefits, VA Healthcare, Agent Orange exposure and State of Tennessee benefits. There will also be a question and answer session.
“Veterans Benefits,” by Nathan Weinbaum, will be on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 7 p.m., at the Blount County Public Library.
Nathan B. Weinbaum, Director of Veterans Affairs/Veterans Service Officer for Blount County, was named the 2013 Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs (TDVA) Veterans Service Officer of the Year. A native of Knoxville, Nathan graduated from the University of Tennessee in December, 2001. He then joined the Navy in January, 2002, shortly after 9/11. He served in communications on the USS Louisiana submarine, being deployed five times.
After an honorable discharge, Nathan was hired as the Deputy Veterans Service Officer in Knox County, TN, where he served for four years. He was named the Veterans Service Officer in Blount County in 2011. Nathan is very active with many Veterans Organizations and currently serves as Vice-President of the Tennessee Veterans Service Officers Association and Veterans Service Officer for District 2 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
