Membership in the Blount County Friends of the Library is worthwhile, interesting, and fun. We are definitely a lively group, currently logging over 16,000 volunteer hours annually!
Income from the quarterly book sales, dues, and donations support the library with equipment (and matching grants for equipment,) operating expenses, the Bookmark Café, and programs such as the Edible Book Contest, Hot Summer Nights, Shakespeare on the Lawn, reading programs, and workshops.
Volunteers spent thousands of hours working at the book sales, serving on the Friends Board, distributing books and programs to nursing homes (programs reaching over 17,500 people) and assisted living centers, attending library book clubs, writing newsletters, arranging publicity and designing ads for the annual book sales, and sending books to soldiers, the homebound, and the Blount County Justice Center facility.
